    H.S. roundup: East Lyme rallies for 28-14 football win over Avon

    East Lyme — Malachi Harris scored three touchdowns as East Lyme overcame a 14-0 deficit to defeat Avon 28-14 on a rainy Saturday night at Dick North Field in a Connecticut Football Alliance game.

    Tommy Matlock’s 2-yard touchdown run got the Vikings (2-1) on the board with 3:02 remaining in the third quarter.

    Harris scored his first TD two from eight yards out just 35 seconds into the fourth quarter and the Vikings converted a two-point conversion to take a 15-14 lead.

    A blocked punt led to another 8-yard TD run by Harris less than three minutes later to make it 21-14, and he broke free for a 22-yard touchdown with just 3:25 left to cap the scoring.

    Boys’ soccer

    • Norwich Free Academy rallied from an early 1-0 deficit to defeat Waterford 2-1 in double overtime. Lewis Hawkins scored both goals for the Wildcats (3-1), the first on a penalty kick late in the first half to tie the match at 1-1 and then off an assist from Erick Portillo in the second overtime. Ian Rush converted a penalty kick for the Lancers (4-2) in the first half.

    • Nolan Muncaster scored twice as Montville defeated Plainfield 7-0 on Friday. Colby Cowan added a goal and two assists, while Chris Baukus, Aaron Gould, Eli Klusek and Eric Richmond also had goals for Montville (3-1-1). Klusek, Ryan Hochdorfer, Luis Salas-Montalvo and Luis Agudelo were credited with assists and Adonis Santiago, Jayden Burrell and Logan Leonard combined for the shutout for the Wolves.

    • Williams School lost a tough non-league game to Hamden Hall 1-0 on Friday. Athanasios Georgiadis played well anchoring the defense for the Blues (0-3) and goalie Batker Katko made 10 saves.

    Girls’ soccer

    • Makayla Spencer, Sara Delourchy and Emiliee Surber scored goals in Valley Regional’s 3-1 non-league win over Fitch. Hannah Richardson, assisted by Emma Forde, scored for the Falcons (0-6) and goalie Jayda Johnson made 10 saves.

    • Morgan defeated Stonington 2-1 in a non-league match. Finnella O’Keefe, assisted by Sofia Regan, scored for the Bears (2-4-2).

    • Waterford erupted for all five goals in the second half of a 5-0 victory over Ledyard in an Eastern Connecticut Confernce Division I match on Friday night. Paige Jessuck had a goal and two assists for the Lancers (4-1, 1-1), who score three goals in the first seven minutes of the second half to take charge, while Charlotte Jessuck added a goal and an assist, Camry Dickinson, Adyson Wiseman and Angeles Pina Rodriguez each scored once, Annalise Girard had one assist and goalie Victoria Sturm had two saves. Ledyard is 1-4, 1-2.

    Volleyball

    • Montville rolled to a 25-15, 25-8 and 25-13 ECC Divison IV win over New London. The Wolves are 4-2, 1-0. Mackenzie Payne had 20 assists, eight aces and four digs for the Whalers (3-5, 0-1) while Alone Ovalles had 11 digs and one ace, Liz Maffeo four kills, four aces and three digs, Serenity Lancaster six kills, four blocks and eight digs, Nyarah Dudley 26 digs and eight service points, and Raelyn Lopez 14 digs.

    • Olivia Luurtsema had nine digs, four assists and three aces as Norwich Tech blanked Ellis Tech 25-23, 25-21, 25-17 on Friday. Abby Ulrich had six kills, three digs and two aces in the victory and Joey Lynn Mills four blocks and two kills. Norwich Tech is 4-3 overall, 4-0 in the CTC East.

    • Grace Phaneuf had 17 assists for Old Lyme in a 25-23, 25-19, 25-23 win over Valley Regional on Friday in the Shoreline Conference. Peighton Andrews had 10 kills and Sydney Siefken had eight aces and 10 digs for Old Lyme (4-3, 4-3).
