    Local roundup: Ledyard boys continue perfect soccer start with 3-0 win over Waterford

    Ledyard — Unbeaten Ledyard scored two goals just 20 seconds apart late in the first half and went on to defeat Waterford 3-0 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II boys’ soccer match on Wednesday night.

    Peyton Luther scored with just 2:38 remaining in the half and Ryan Hernandez made it 2-0 just 20 seconds later.

    Luther would add a second goal in the 52nd minute for the Colonels (5-0, 3-0). Hernandez assisted on both Luther goals while Ben Crowe assisted on Hernandez’s goal.

    Paulo Templeton made four saves for Ledyard while Ben Dubicki stopped seven shots for the Lancers (4-3, 2-1).

    In other games:

    • Norwich Tech made an early goal stand up and beat Wheeler 1-0 in a non-league match to remain unbeaten. Roman McElwee, assisted by Tyler Barry, scored in the sixth minute for the Warriors (6-0-1). Wheeler falls to 4-3.

    • Portsmouth Abbey got the best of Williams School 8-1 in a non-league match. Tyler Gagliardi, assisted by Finn McGann, scored for the Blues (0-5).

    • East Lyme, ranked No. 7 in the latest Class LL/L state coaches’ poll, remained unbeaten with a 2-0 win over NFA in an ECC Division I match on Tuesday night. Robert Stoddard, assisted by Ryan Wargo, broke scoreless tie in the 60th minute for the Vikings (5-0, 2-0) and Brendan Ossi set up Dominick Stefanski for an insurance goal 11 minutes later. Ben Johnson made four saves in goal for East Lyme, which held a 15-4 edge in shots, while Kolton Hawkins made 10 saves for the Wildcats (3-2, 0-1).

    H.S. girls’ soccer

    • Katie Pierce had two goals and an assist to highlight Wheeler’s 7-0 non-league win over Amistad. Jill Comeau, Hannah Viele, Sarah Delgrosso, Ingrid Anderson and Valentina Corrigan also scored goals for the Lions (2-4) while Mya Comeau assisted on one of Pierce’s goals.

    • Natalie Smith scored four goals as Grasso Tech defeated Wolcott Tech 8-3 in the Connecticut Technical Conference. Kylee Morrison added two goals for the Eagles (2-3, 2-3) while Zania Rodriguez and Danielle Sands each scored once.

    • Williams overcame an early 2-0 deficit to earn its first win of the season with a 7-2 victory over Westover. Skylar Frost and Marlee Anselmi finished with three goals and one assist apiece for the Blues (1-3) while Maria Morant added a goal.

    H.S. volleyball

    • New London earned its first ECC Division IV win of the season with a 25-11, 25-21 and 25-21 win over Putnam. Nyarah Dudley six aces, 18 service points, two kills, three blocks and 33 blocks for the Whalers (4-6, 1-2) while Serenity Lancaster had three aces, seven points, seven kills and six digs, Cashel Jones had four aces, 14 points, seven assists and seven digs, Raelyn Lopez had 13 digs and three assists and Malahika Paulo had one ace, two kills and six digs.

    • East Lyme defeated Fitch 25-14, 26-24 and 25-16 in an ECC Division I match. Bella Diep had 27 assists, Skylar Bell 16 digs and Abby Parulis 13 kills to lead the Vikings (6-2, 2-1) while Abby Malone had six kills and Tessa Cantone 13 digs for the Falcons (3-5, 0-3).

    • Montville remained unbeaten in ECC Division IV play with a 27-25, 25-10 and 25-10 win over Wheeler. Zoie Farrar had 10 Kills, five aces and four digs for the Wolves (6-2, 3-0) while Keira Paradis added six kills, Liz Maffeo seven kills and Josselyn Liss seven digs. Maddie Wagner had two aces and three kills for the Lions (4-4, 2-1) while Abby Butremovic had 26 digs and Jaime Dimock nine digs.

    • Waterford defeated Ledyard 25-13, 24-14 and 25-20 in an ECC Division II match. Breille Kenney had 10 kills for the Lancers (6-1, 3-0) while Jennie Macca-Barnes had eight kills, 11 digs and five aces, Emerson Lane eight kills and two blocks and Danica Agsalud 22 assists. Kylee Gill had eight digs, Sarah Banach five digs, Keara Opelinik five kills and Emily Peckham nine assists for the Colonels (3-5, 0-3).

    • Cheney Tech defeated Grasso Tech 3-1 in the CTC. Game scores were 25-20, 19-25, 25-20 and 26-24. Alandra Johnson had nine service points and 11 kills for the Eagles (2-5, 2-4) while Antonia Orbe added 14 points and Emma Pavlak had eight points and 16 kills.

    • East Hampton rolled to a 25-11, 25-19 and 25-12 win over Old Lyme in the Shoreline Conference. Grace Phaneuf had 13 assists for the Wildcats (5-4, 4-4) while Peighton Andrews added 14 digs and five kills and Kelly Sheehan had eight digs.

    H.S. cross country

    • Old Lyme’s Chase Gilbert was the overall winner during a Shoreline Conference small schools meet at Old Lyme. Gilbert, the reigning Shoreline champion, finished the race in 21:03 and teammate Alexis Antonellis was 10th in 24:30. The Wildcats did not have enough runners to compete in the team race, which was won by Hale-Ray.

    Hale-Ray also won the boys’ race and Old Lyme was fourth. Eric Dagher was the top finisher for the Wildcats in eighth place with a time of 19:19.

    H.S. girls’ swimming

    • East Lyme defeated Ledyard/St. Bernard 94-67 in an ECC meet. The Vikings (3-1, 3-1) picked up individual wins from Ruby Thoms in the 200-yard freestyle, Julia Morcos in the 50 free, Makenna Harms in the 100 butterfly and Jennifer Park in the 100 backstroke. Anna Kate O’Donnell won the 200 IM and 400 free, Cait McKenzie the 100 free, and Thelma Grogan the 100 breaststroke for the Colonels (1-5, 0-4).

    College field hockey

    • No. 10 Amherst rolled to a 3-0 victory over Connecticut College in the NESCAC. Goalie Liz Winemaster made eight saves for the Camels (2-4, 0-3).

    College volleyball

    • Coast Guard earned its first NEWMAC win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Wheaton on Tuesday night. Game scores were 25-11, 26-25, 20-25 and 29-27. Shannon Shaw had 15 kills and Sophia Galdamez 14 for the Bears (11-4, 1-2) while Allie Wildsmith finished with six blocks and Mackenzie Murnane had a season-high 35 assists.
