New London — Connecticut College erupted for all of its goals in the second half to earn a 3-0 victory over Colby College on Saturday in a New England Small College Athletic Conference men’s soccer match at rainy Freeman Field.

The Camels (9-0-3, 4-0-3), ranked 10th in the latest Division III national poll, finally broke through with a pair of goals less than two minutes apart. Jake Creus scored an unassisted goal in the 53rd minute to give Conn the lead and Creus set up Matt Scoffone 90 seconds later to make it 2-0.

Dylan Zane tapped in a pass from Elliot Spatz with 15 minutes left to complete the scoring.

The Camels held a 20-6 edge in shots and goalie Peter Silvester made four saves in 82 minutes before being replaced by Casey Shea.

Women’s soccer

• Conn College earned its second straight NESCAC win with a 4-0 victory over Colby. Lauren Anastos, assisted by Morgan Plouffe, gave the Camels (6-5, 2-5) a 1-0 lead just 3:56 into the match and Conn broke things open with three goals in the second half. Jamie Scarpantonio made it 2-0 when she knocked in a rebound off a shot by Old Lyme’s Mya Johnson before Ella Gazo converted a penalty kick and Maya Griffin capped the scoring in the 86th minute.

Field hockey

• Conn College won its first NESCAC game of the season with a 2-0 victory over Colby. Elektra Rodger gave the Camels (4-7, 1-6) a 1-0 lead in the first half before Bridget McGann scored an insurance goal in the second half. Katie Dolan and Chloe Therrien each had an assist while goalie Liz Winemaster earned her fourth shutout by recording three saves.

Volleyball

• Trinity rallied for a 3-2 victory over Conn College in the NESCAC. Game scores were 21-25, 25-16, 1825, 26-24 and 15-11.Riley Lord led the Camels (9-9, 2-7) with 15 kills and 18 digs, while Rae Wartelle contributed 14 kills, a block and two block assists, Emma Wheeler added 11 kills, one block and a pair of block assists, Caroline Festersen had 21 digs and Katherine Randall finished with 25 digs and nine kills.

Women’s cross country

• Host Conn College placed sixth in their own invitational at Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford. NYU won the race with 36 points. The Camels were led by Abigail Fernald, who finished 14th overall in 21.51.4 over the 6k course. Three other Conn runners finished in the top 50 with Alsacia Timmerman 28th (22:23.2), Edin Sisson 41st (22:37.2) and Abigail Williams 46th (22:40.2).

Men’s cross country

• Conn College finished 14th in its own invitational at Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford. St. Olaf captured the team title with 59 points. Ethan Bush paced the Camels by placing 39th in 25:23.

Speedbowl rained out

• The New London-Waterford Speedbowl’s regular-season ending “Crowning of Champions” card was postponed by rain. The event, which will feature racing in seven weekly divisions, will now take place on Friday, Oct. 20.

It kicks off a huge weekend of racing that will conclude on Saturday, Oct. 21 with the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series, the American-Canadian Tour, the Don Caddick Memorial SK Light 50 and an Open Street Stock race.
