    Local roundup: Johnson leads Conn women to victory

    New London — Mya Johnson scored two goals and had an assist as Connecticut College beat Middlebury 3-2 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference women’s soccer game on Sunday.

    Johnson, the former Old Lyme standout, had a pair of unassisted goals in the first half as the Camels took a 2-1 lead.

    Middlebury (5-4-4, 1-4-3) tied by game on a Mia Feldman goal in the 80th minute and 50 seconds later Conn took the lead on a goal by Lauren Anastos, with Jamie Scarpantonio and Johnson assisting. Sarah Hall made six saves for the Camels (7-5, 3-5).

    Men’s soccer

    • Unbeaten Conn College played to a 1-1 tie with No. 3 Middlebury in a NESCAC game. Middlebury (9-0-4, 5-0-3) took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Tyler Payne in the 60th minute. Conn’s Gavin Mpiana tied the game in the 76th minute. Peter Silvester made two saves for the Camels (9-0-4, 4-0-4).

    Field hockey

    • No. 1 Middlebury beat Conn College 6-0 in a NESCAC game. Katie George and Amy Griffin each scored twice for Middlebury (13-0, 8-0). Liz Winemaster (four), Sophie Moniz and Bea Talbott combined for nine saves for the Camels (4-8, 1-7).
