    Local roundup: Rembert leads Saints to victory

    Montville — Nazir Rembert scored 20 points to lead St. Bernard to a 74-61 win over Malden Catholic of Massachusetts in a boys’ basketball game on Saturday.

    Amyre Gray (19), Curtis Marshall (12) and Amare Marshall (10) also scored in double figures for the Saints (3-1). Matt Gaffney led Malden with 18 points.

    Fitch lost to Wilton 70-61 in a nonleague game. JJ Robinson had 20 points and six assists, Jacob Francis had 12 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks and freshman Si'kis Reels had 18 points on six 3-pointers for the Falcons (2-1).

    In other games:

    • Wheeler beat Bacon Academy 41-39 in overtime on Friday night. Zane Brewer had 18 points and five rebounds, Keith Zardies had five rebounds, Deondre Bransford had 11 rebounds and Kyle Kessler had six steals for the Lions (2-1). Jace King scored 15 and Troy Johnson had 13 points for Bacon (0-2).

    • Eddie Fiske scored 23 points as Old Lyme remained unbeaten with a 70-47 win over Westbrook in a Shoreline Conference game. Leland Hine had 12 points and Oliver Wyman scored 10 for the Wildcats (4-0, 3-0). Maurice Whalen had 16 points for Westbrook.

    H.S. wrestling

    • Ledyard hosted and went 2-1 in the Jerry Watkins Colonel Holiday Duals, beating Guilford 42-37 and New Fairfield 39-35 and losing to Foran 58-24. Josiah Estriplet (120) and Ryan Taggart (150) were 3-0 with three pins,Tatianna Irizarry (113) with 3-0 with two pins and Aidan Schlmingen (285) was 2-1 with two pins.

    Taggart clinched both wins for the Colonels (4-1) with pins.

    • NFA went 3-1 at the RHAM Invitational, beating Hand 71-12 and Avon 48-34 while losing to RHAM 39-34. Jackson Sorel (126) and Dylan Vanegas (150) were 4-0 for the Wildcats (5-1) with three pins each and Logan Jenkins (175) and Jesse Tingley (285) each won three times.

    • Old Lyme lost three at the Killingly Holiday Duals, falling to Griswold/Wheeler 66-17, Stafford 57-15 and the hosts 66-13. Taiyo Gemme (144) was 3-0 and Rowan Hovey (150) and Chase Catalano (175) each won twice for the Wildcats and Catalano had a pair of pins.

    • New London remained unbeaten by sweeping a quad-match on Friday. The Whalers (5--0) beat Bloomfield 81-0, Gilbert 45-33 and host Suffield/Windsor Locks 72-6. Jose Negron-Ortiz, Masyn Smith, Jeremy Ruiz, Christian Ortiz, Treyvon Lewellen, Trevin Robledo-Thompson, Jhandel Marichal, Kaiden Smith and Henry Santana-Liriano were undefeated for New London while Alejandro Torres, Shea Quashie, Junior Ruiz and Jaquis Lee each won twice.
