    Local roundup: Coast Guard women win their sixth straight

    New London — The Coast Guard Academy women’s basketball team won its sixth straight game, beating Colby-Sawyer 72-4 on Thursday.

    Dorothy Stotts had 13 points and six assists, Kira Wood had 14 points, Glory Blethan had 12 points, Kelly Hagerty scored 10 and Julia Mann had eight rebounds for the Bears (11-2).

    H.S. girls’ basketball

    • Montville beat Tourtellotte 30-21. Jada Cheung led the Wolves (3-3) with 19 points and Summer Dutram scored 13 for Tourtellotte.

    • Molly Crabtree scored 22 points as Killingly beat Stonington 62-42. Katelyn Cadmus led Stonington (3-5) with 13 points and Leah DePerry had nine points and four steals.

    • Kylie Lake scored 18 points as Old Saybrook beat Wheeler 52-31 in a nonleague game. Abby Butremovic had 12 points and Hayden Bresnan scored 10 for the Lions (1-6).

    • Eva Monahan scored 20 points as Woodstock Academy won its eighth straight, beating East Lyme 49-33 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I game. Lindsay Todd led the Vikings (0-9, 0-5) with 11 points.

    H.S. football

    • Erik Larka has resigned as head football coach at NFA after two seasons, it was announced by NFA Athletic Director Roy Wentworth.

    “We are grateful for coach Larka’s time with our program,” said Wentworth in a release. “However, with every change comes an opportunity, and I am looking forward to finding the next leader of our program.”

    Wentworth has formed a hiring committee, and interested candidates are encouraged to apply online at nfaschool.org/employment.

    H.S. wrestling

    • Ledyard lost to Windham 45-31 in an ECC Division II meet on Wednesday. Tatianna Irizarry (113 pounds), Logan Storz (144), Ryan Taggart (150) and Braxton Swanbeck (165) had pins for the Colonels (5-2, 0-1) and teammates Josiah Estriplet (120) and Joseph Crader (138) also won their matches.

    • Griswold/Wheeler beat Bacon Academy 71-9 in an ECC Division III match on Wednesday. Seth Christie (120), Vincent Andreozzi (126), Caleb Christie (132) and Jeffrey Bentley (138) had pins for the Wolverines (8-4, 1-0).Bacon (2-10, 0-1) got a pin from Carson Brown (165) and a win from Dante Colella (175).
