    Local college roundup: Betsey hits six 3s, paces Chancellors to Founders championship

    Montville — Tyler Betsey scored 26 points Saturday as St. Thomas More won the Founders Tournament, 106-56 over Thetford Academy.

    Betsey, committed to the University of Cincinnati, made six three-pointers for the Chancellors, who made 13 three-pointers and eclipsed 100 points for the seventh time this season.

    Men’s hockey

    • John Russo and Steven Ardagna scored for Connecticut College during a 5-2 loss to Amherst in NESCAC. The Camels are 5-6-2, 3-5-0. Russo finished with a goal and an assist, while Andrew Eberling also had two points for Conn on a pair of assists.

    On Friday, five different players scored one goal each and Conn picked up a crucial conference win, defeating Hamilton 5-4. Cole Eichler, Seth Stadheim and Rocco Testa-Basi each finished with a goal and an assist for the Camels and Michael DiMascolo, John Harrington and Devon Newhook each had goals, with DiMascolo netting the game-winner with 12 minutes remaining on assists from Kei Yasuda and Ardagna. Sean Dynan made 35 saves for the victory.

    Women’s hockey

    • Alana Burm scored on an assist from Claire Sammons to give Conn College an early lead against No. 3 Amherst, but the Camels fell 2-1 at Dayton Arena. Conn is 5-5-4 overall and 1-5-2 in NESCAC.

    Men’s swimming

    • Justin Finkel won three individual events and contributed to a relay victory to lift Conn College past Wheaton (208-80) and Babson (216-82), improving the Camels to 5-0 on the year. Conn took first place in 11 events and posted 1-2-3 finishes in four events. Finkel won the 200 freestyle, 50 freestyle, 500 freestyle and swam a leg of the winning 200 medley relay. Matthew Morris (50 backstroke, 100 backstroke), Evan Lyons (1,000 freestyle, 200 individual medley) and Gabe Frank (100 butterfly, 50 butterfly) each won a pair of events.

    Women’s swimming

    • Conn College earned a split in a tri-meet with Wheaton and Babson. The Camels took first place in five events on the day as they topped Babson 241.5-46.5 but fell against Wheaton 165-129. Rosemary Bonadies (50 backstroke, 100 backstroke) and Hope Lane (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle) each won a pair of races to fuel the Conn (3-2) and Kate Edison added a victory in the 100 butterfly.
