    Local roundup: Phillips leads New London past East Hartford

    New London — DaShaun Phillips scored 24 points as New London beat East Hartford 86-70 in a nonleague boys’ basketball game on Thursday night.

    Julius Washington had 17 points, Devan Williams scored 16 and Cayden Simonds-Gaskin scored 10 for the Whalers (8-3), who gave coach Dave Cornish his 200th career win on Wednesday night.

    Dom LaDuca led East Hartford with a game-high 26 points. The Hornets (6-3) are coached by former New London standout Pete Gittens.

    In other games:

    • Armanee Davis scored 23 points and NFA beat E.O. Smith 88-77. Ethan Graham had 19 points and Keegan Johnston scored 11 for the Wildcats (4-5). Noah Cordone had 24 points and Cam Belanger scored 16 for E.O. Smith (4-6).

    H.S. girls’ basketball

    • Synaa Waters and Dre’Ana Singleton had double-doubles as Fitch beat East Lyme 65-48 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I game. Waters had 19 points and 14 rebounds and Singleton had 15 points and 10 assists.

    Meleeya Robbins had 17 points and Gabby Dimock scored 14 for the Falcons (9-5, 3-2). Rilynn Pollard had 12 points and blocked three shots, JuJu Guarraia scored 11 and Lindsay Todd had eight points for the Vikings (1-12, 0-6).

    • NFA beat Woodstock Academy 41-37 in an ECC Division I game. Emily Orcutt had 16 points and Nevaek Yorke scored nine for NFA (8-5, 3-2). Eva Monahan led Woodstock with 15 points.

    • Montville beat Wheeler 36-32. Jada Cheung scored 25 points for the Wolves (7-4) and Hayden Bresnan and Morgyn Perkins had 10 points each for Wheeler (1-8).

    • Ariahna Headen scored 17 points as Killingly beat St. Bernard 58-41. Angelica Tompkins scored 34 points for the Saints (6-5).

    • Aniya Jenkins scored 22 points as Windham beat Waterford 61-52. Lucy Walker had 19 points and 11 rebounds and Sarah Davidson scored 12 points on four 3-pointers for the Lancers (2-10).

    • Roselyn Lopez scored 19 points to lead Ellis Tech past Norwich Tech 63-38. Autumn Hanks and Maya Stimson scored 10 points each for Norwich Tech (4-7).

    • Griswold beat Putnam 46-23 on Wednesday night. Natalie Becotte had 16 points and Abby Matheson scored 12 for the Wolverines (2-8).

    H.S. wrestling

    • Ledyard recorded five pins and beat Fitch 51-24. Tatianna Irizarry (106 pounds), Talon Vanase (113), Joseph Crader (132), Braxton Swanbeck (165) and Aidan Schlimgen (285) had pins and Ryan Taggart also won his match for the Colonels (10-5). Mason Plasse (120), Lance Stewart (144) and Dylan Beebe (190) had pins for the Falcons (2-12) and teammates Jody Murnane (157) and Alex Letroedec also won their matches.

    • New London remained unbeaten with a 60-24 win over Griswold/Wheeler on Wednesday night. Jose Negron-Ortiz, Masyn Smith, Jeremy Ruiz, Shea Quashie, Jaquis Lee, Treyvon Lewellen, Gio Escalera Da-Silva, Jhandel Marichal, Kaiden Smith and Henry Santana-Liriano had pins for the Whalers (8-0).

    • Waterford lost to No. 8 Killingly 66-16 in an ECC Division II meet on Wednesday night. Devon Powers won by pin at 165 pounds and Lucas Gannotti also won his match at 150 for the Lancers (10-7, 0-2).

    Men’s basketball

    • Jaylyn Clardy scored a career-high 34 points as Mitchell College beat Wesleyan 95-79 in a nonleague game.It was the first win over Wesleyan in the Mariners’ Division III era. Dontae Pollard had a career-high 28 points and seven rebounds, Robert Zirlis had 11 points, Wilton Causey had nine rebounds and Brandon Lee had seven rebounds for Mitchell (5-11).

    • Connecticut College lost to Albertus Magnus 71-68 in a nonleague game. David Murray had 21 points and six rebounds, Elias Espinosa had 13 points and four assists and Cam Schainfeld had 12 points and five rebounds for the Camels (12-5).

    • Babson outscored Coast Guard 40-33 in the second half to rally for a 76-75 win in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference game. Declan Rooney had 16 points and 13 rebounds, Elijah Parent scored 14, Mitch Shettles had 13 points and Ben Yagey scored 12 for the Bears (11-6, 4-4).

    Women’s basketball

    • Coast Guard ended a nine-game losing streak against Springfield with a 51-18 win in the NEWMAC game on Wednesday night. Julia Mann had 14 points and eight rebounds, Kelly Hagerty had 16 rebounds and Glory Blethen had six rebounds and two blocks for the Bears (13-3, 2-0).
