    Local roundup: Miller picks up his 300th career victory in Saint Joseph’s win over Mitchell

    New London -- Saint Joseph handed coach Glen Miller his 300th career coaching victory by beating Mitchell College 123-65 Wednesday in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men’s basketball game.

    Miller, a Fitch High School graduate, has racked up coaching wins at four different schools: Connecticut College, Brown, Penn and Saint Joseph.

    Saint Joseph (15-4, 8-0) raced out to a 70-28 halftime lead and never looked back. Tyree Mitchell had 21 points and Kevin Cummings added 17.

    Jaylyn Clardy, Wilton Causey and Dontae Pollard each finished with 14 points for Mitchell (5-13, 2-5).

    H.S. girls’ basketball

    • Rory Risley had 16 points, 12 rebounds and five steals for Stonington in a 53-42 victory over first-place Windham in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division III game. Elizabeth Jones and Katelyn Cadmus had 12 points each for Stonington (7-5, 5-1), which lost to Windham 66-40 on Dec. 15. The score was tied 35-35 after three quarters before the Bears outscored the Whippets 18-7 in the fourth quarter.

    • Meleeya Robbins had 23 points and eight rebounds for Fitch in a 70-54 loss to top-ranked and unbeaten Sacred Heart Academy. Gabby Dimock added 16 points and six rebounds for Fitch (9-7) and Katherine Wenger had eight points. Sacred Heart had five players in double figures, led by Morgan Miller with 15.

    • Jada Cheung scored 30 points for Montville and Emily Treat had 10 in a 45-30 victory over Old Lyme. Sybil Neary had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Old Lyme (5-8) and Ava Roth finished with 10 steals. Montville (8-6) led 24-10 at halftime.

    • Abby Butremovic had eight points for Wheeler in a 21-16 victory over Tourtellotte in an ECC Division IV game. Hayden Bresnan added five points for the Lions (3-9, 3-3).

    • Kate Van Berkel led the way with nine points as The Williams School defeated Eagle Hill 29-14 for its second victory of the year. Ally Lacobellis and Annie Gringras had eight points each for the Blues.

    H.S. boys’ basketball

    • Naz Rembert scored 20 points for No. 7 St. Bernard in an 88-64 victory over Windham. Tyler Mangual and Jonah Eddy added 15 points each for the Saints (11-2), who led 29-19 after one quarter.

    H.S. wrestling

    • Lucas Gannotti (150 pounds), Lucas Bourez (157) and Devon Powers (165) had pins for Waterford in a 41-30 loss to Windham in ECC Division II. Jacob Racicot (138) and Alex Dyjak (175) also had wins for the Lancers (11-7, 0-3).

    • Ryan Taggert (150 pounds) and Braxton Swanbeck (165) had major decisions for Ledyard in a 54-17 loss to Killingly in ECC Division II. Logan Storz (144) and Chris Robertson (175) also picked up wins for the Colonels (12-8, 1-2).

    H.S. boys’ swimming

    • Shelton won the meet’s final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay, to clinch an 85-84 victory over East Lyme/Norwich Free Academy. Mingwen Duan won the 100 butterfly (1:02.96), the 100 backstroke (1:04.96) and led East Lyme/NFA to a win in the 200 freestyle relay, joining Ryan Zhuang, Albert Zhu and Caleb Blanchard. Zhu added a victory in the 100 breaststroke for the Vikings (0-5 overall, 0-3 SCC Division II).
