    H.S. roundup: Ledyard has five champs at Meyers Invitational

    Rocky Hill — The Ledyard wrestling team had five champions and finished third at the Doc Meyers Invitational on Saturday.

    Tatiana Irizarry (106 pounds), Collin Rhodes (138), Ryan Taggart (150), Braxton Swanbeck (165) and Aidan Schlimgen (285) won titles for the Colonels.

    Ephraim Medic (190) finished second and Talon Vanase (113), Brian Johnson (157) and Noah Jones (132) had third-place finishes.

    In other meets:

    • East Lyme/Norwich Tech finished seventh in the 18-team CT Challenge in Southington and had a pair of champions. Lincoln Carlson (175) and Brayden Soleau (190) won titles for the Vikings and Jacob Bookmiller was fourth at 215.

    • NFA went 2-1 at the Kevin Miller tournament at East Hartford. The Wildcats (20-5) beat Guilford 45-27 and Stratford 56-24 while losing to Fairfield Warde 57-22. Naim Wallace (150) and Zaire Wallace (190) each went 3-0 with three pins and Dylan Vanegas (144) was 3-0 with two pins.

    • Fitch went 1-2 at the Hastings Duals in Newington. Marco Ursini (106), Onyx Molina (157) and Dylan Beebe (190) each won twice for the Falcons (5-17).

    • Riley Montana (106 pounds), Luke Westkott (113), Lucas Gannotti (150) and Devon Powers (165) all went 3-0 for Waterford in its Wrestle For the Cure Event on Friday night. The Lancers (12-9) defeated Westerly 57-7 and Putnam 46-18, falling to Coventry, R.I., 57-23, with Westkott earning a pair of pins.

    Girls’ basketball

    • Cara Shea made three free throws in the final 25 seconds as Bacon Academy held off Windham 46-42. Skyleen Schoen-Rene had 17 points and 12 rebounds, Katelyn Novak scored 11, Elizabeth Glover had 11 rebounds and Shea had 10 points for the Bobcats (10-5), who have won four straight. Jaelize Rivera led Windham (11-3) with 12 points.

    • Stonington lost to Woodstock Academy 57-43. Katelyn Cadmus had 14 points and three steals, Rory Risley scored 12 and Leah DePerry had six rebounds for the Bears (8-6). Eva Monahan led Woodstock with 19 points and eight rebounds.

    • Ledyard lost to East Hampton 57-43. Maggie Dykes had 18 points and Adrianna Hardison scored 10 for the Colonels (7-6).

    • Williams School beat Westover 40-36. Kate-Van Berkel and Ally Lacobellis scored 12 points each for the Blues, who rallied from a 10-point deficit in the third quarter.

    Boys’ basketball

    • Daniel Hess and John Mastorakis scored 14 points each as Norwich Tech beat Montville 48-46. Wyatt Quint had eight rebounds and five assists, Josh Lodyko had six steals and Mastorakis had eight rebounds for the Warriors (4-8). Jack Treat had nine points and Jace Kobyluck scored eight for Montville (4-10).

    • Devan Williams scored 21 points as New London beat Killingly 75-54. Savahn Warren had 13 points and Da’Shaun Phillips had 12 points for the Whalers (11-3). Johnny Kazantzis scored 22 points and Quin Crowley scored 12 for Killingly (5-8).

    • Ethan Graham had 16 points for NFA in a 60-54 victory over East Lyme on Friday night in ECC Division I. Armanee Davis added 11 points and Malachy Murray and Camron Barboza each had 10 for NFA (6-6, 2-4). Mikey Timpano had 18 and Brendan Osso 16 for East Lyme (8-5, 1-5).

    Girls’ fencing

    • New London swept foil in a tri-meet, beating East Lyme 5-4 and host NFA 6-3. East Lyme beat NFA 6-3. In epee, NFA beat New London 6-3, New London beat East Lyme 5-4 and East Lyme beat NFA 8-1.

    • Bacon Academy went 2-0 in foil, beating Fitch 5-4 and Ledyard 8-1 while Fitch beat Ledyard 6-3. In epee, Fitch beat Ledyard 6-3 and Bacon 7-2, while Ledyard beat Bacon 7-2.

    Boys’ fencing

    • Host NFA was undefeated in a tri-meet. The Wildcats beat each East Lyme and New London 6-3 in foil and epee. New London beat East Lyme 7-2 in foil and epee.

    • Bacon Academy went 2-0 in epee, beating Fitch 5-3 and Ledyard 7-2, while Fitch beat Ledyard 7-2. Ledyard beat Fitch 6-3 in foil.
