    Local roundup: Saints, Lancers advance in boys’ basketball tourney

    Montville — St. Bernard rallied in the fourth quarter and beat No. 11 Crosby 64-60 in the second round of the CIAC Division I boys’ basketball tournament on Thursday night.

    The No. 6 Saints (21-3) play at No. 3 Kolbe Cathedral in the quarterfinals on Monday at 7 p.m. Crosby led 52-48 after three quarters but were outscored 16-8 in the fourth quarter. The Saints went 7-for-8 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.

    Amyre Gray led the Saints with 28 points and freshman Troy McKelvin Jr. had 12 points. D.J. Melendez led Crosby with 23 points.

    In other games:

    • Jordi Cassar scored 18 points and had four rebounds as No. 22 Waterford advanced to the Division III quarterfinals with a 70-49 win over No. 6 East Haven. The Lancers (12-12) will play at No. 14 Fairfield Ludlowe on Monday at 7 p.m. Ludlowe ousted No. 3 Wilby 44-42.

    Juan Morel had 14 points and eight rebounds, Parker Spencer had 13 points and five assists and Gabe Lombardi scored 10 for Waterford. Dom Galletti led East Haven with 15 points.

    • No. 9 Fitch was ousted from the Division III tournament, falling to No. 8 Seymour 71-70.

    Women’s lacrosse

    • Kate Coughlin led Conn College with four goals and an assist as the Camels bounced back from a season-opening defeat to beat Smith 15-4 Wednesday. Caroline Bruce, Aine Downey, Janet Howard and Greta Panke each had two points, while Downey added three ground balls for Conn (1-1), which ended the first half on an 8-0 run to lead 8-1.
