    Local roundup: Wildcats come from behind to win in volleyball

    Hartford — Alec Ferland had 29 assists Friday in Norwich Free Academy’s 3-1 victory over Bulkeley/Sports & Medical Sciences in boys’ volleyball.

    Tyler McDermott finished with 16 kills, nine blocks and 12 digs and Keegan Johnston seven kills and 10 digs for the Wildcats (5-1), while Ferland added 13 digs and five blocks.

    Game scores were 21-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-16.

    H.S. girls’ lacrosse

    • Kylie Spreng had eight goals for Montville in a 12-3 victory over Woodstock Academy. Savannah Vichas added three goals for the Wolves (1-1), Bella Estelle had one goal, Karissa Hochdorfer two assists and Paige Terris had five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Katie Koning earned the victory with six saves in goal.

    H.S. boys’ lacrosse

    • Jake Watson and Gavin DeLucia each had five goals and two assists and Jayden Sherwood finished with three goals and three assists, including his 100th career point, as Montville defeated Norwich Tech/Windham Tech 17-4. Chris Baukus added two goals and two assists for the Wolves (1-4) and Calen Vanvoorhies had two goals and one assist. Mason O’Connor made a career-high seven saves in the victory. Landon Traylor and Anthony Caisse had two goals each for Norwich Tech/Windham Tech (1-4).

    • Finn McCann had four goals and Henry Champagne and Marc Macera three each for The Williams School, which built an early lead on the way to a 16-6 victory over Rocky Hill Country Day of Rhode Island. Brendan Li added two goals and four assists and Tyler Gagliardi had two goals and one assist for the Blues (4-0). The defense was led by Robby Shay and Brian Li (seven groundballs) and goalie Henry Gallagher (13 saves).

    • St. Bernard/Wheeler lost to Northwest Catholic 16-5 on Thursday. Ben Howes scored twice and Will Sluggett, Noah Courter and Mark Sauchuk each had a goal for the Saints (1-1).

    H.S. boys’ tennis

    • Peter Schoenecker won a three-set match at No. 3 singles in Stonington’s 7-0 victory over Newington. Schoenecker beat Sean Fleming 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Brady O’Neil, Matthew Turrisi and Thomas Lyon also won singles matches for the Bears (3-0) and the doubles teams of Chase Donnarummo-Sam Lund, Sean Lord-Henry Sawin and Ben Mahoney-Alex Miles also picked up victories.

    College men’s lacrosse

    • Lorenzo Vogliano had a career-high five goals to go along with one assist as Conn College picked up a 15-9 victory over Nichols. The Camels, who never trailed, had seven players contribute a goal. In addition to Vogliano, JJ Ford added four goals and an assist, Liam Horkan had two goals and an assist and Jack Tenzer, Nick McLaughlin, Bobby Chang and Myles Newport had one goal each. Will Rice, Will Vivian and Richard Skalaski combined to make 14 saves for the Camels (4-6).
