    Local roundup: Mitchell still unbeaten in GNAC baseball

    New London — The Mitchell College baseball team remained unbeaten in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference with a 21-5 win over Dean on Sunday.

    Freshmen Michael Ficocelli and Chas Terni Jr. of Montville led the 20-hit attack for the Mariners (23-8, 10-0). Ficocelli wast 4-for-6 with a double, two RBI, and three runs scored and Terni was 3-for-4 with his fourth home run, four RBI and three runs scored.

    Robbie DelaCruz of Uncasville, returning to the lineup after suffering an injury on March 8, had a pinch-hit, two-run double and added a homer during a four-run seventh inning. Michael Gajda also homered for Mitchell. Nicholas Strojny (3-0) got the win, allowing two earned runs in six innings.

    Women’s water polo

    • Connecticut College beat Carthage College 11-8 to earn a fifth-place finish at the Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III Championships at Conn’s Lott Natatorium. Trailing 4-2 midway through the second quarter, the Camels reeled off an 8-2 run and held on for the win.

    Gigi Sandull scored four goals, Ainsley Cornwall had three goals and an assist, Brooke Brandenburger had two goals and two assists, Emma Luna had two goals and an assist and Maddie Baybeck made eight saves for Conn, which ends the season at 10-7.

    H.S. boys’ lacrosse

    • Montville lost to West Haven 13-8 in a nonleague game on Saturday night. Chris Baukus scored six goals with an assist, Jacob Watson scored twice and had five assists and Calen VanVoorhies had a goal for the Wolves (1-7).
