    Local roundup: Skrabacz leads Whalers softball team to victory

    New London — Alina Skrabacz pitched a five-inning no-hitter and struck out 11 of the 15 batters that she faced, leading New London past Windham, 14-1, Friday in an Eastern Connecticut Conference softball game.

    Skrabacz also had a single, a three-run triple and scored three runs.

    New London (2-5) scored six runs in the first inning and eight in the second to take a commanding lead.

    Sienna Montanari had a single and two RBI and Jadelise Garrett added a single and two RBI while Alanna Noonan added a triple for the Whalers.

    In other games:

    • Wheeler beat Griswold 10-1. Morgyn Perkins and Valentine Corrigan drove in two runs each and Reese Main pitched a seven-hitter with seven strikeouts for the Lions (6-1). Abby Butremovic and Main had two hits each for Wheeler. Elaina Conrad had two hits for Griswold (8-3).

    • Kyra Manning had a single and double to help lift Ledyard over St. Bernard, 8-6. Faith Dalton, Aleecia Helme and Mia Starling all went 2 for 4 while Maegan Miller had a home run for the Colonels (7-3). Angelica Thompkins and Kaitlyn Scribner homered for the Saints (3-5).

    • Ari Scavello contributed a single, two triples and five RBI to power Stonington past Woodstock, 14-0, in six innings. Gracelyn Smith went 3 for 3 and Cami Brown had two singles, a triple and two RBI for the Bears (10-1).

    • Winning pitcher Dakota Bourdon had two doubles and scored two runs for Norwich Free Academy in a 19-2 win over Lyman Memorial. Chloe Green had two singles and two RBI for the Wildcats (7-4). Lena-Marie Byers had a single and RBI for the Bulldogs (1-8).

    College softball

    • Coast Guard Academy swept a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference doubleheader from Salve Regina, winning 8-7 and 5-2. Julia Breidenthal’s RBI double drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning in game one while Christine Carey had three hits and scored two runs and Isabelle Shroyer had a double and two RBI in game two for the Bears (11-17, 9-5).

    H.S. baseball

    • Eddie Torres pitched a complete game, allowing three hits and striking out 12, and also added two singles at the plate to lead New London past Windham, 11-0, in six innings. Darius Aquino had three doubles, three runs scored and three RBI for Whalers (2-7) and Lou Anaya had a double and triple while Juan Santiago Droz and Joey Dougherty each chipped in two hits.

    • Bacon Academy improved to 6-3 by beating Ledyard, 11-5. Chris Lusignan had two doubles and an RBI while Mason Pingree had a double, two singles and two RBI and winning pitcher Ethan Creutz added two doubles and two RBI for the Bobcats.

    • Grady Lacourciere threw a no-hitter and struck out nine while going 4-for-4 at the plate for Old Lyme in a 3-2 win over Valley Regional in the Shoreline Conference. Jordan Hanes had two hits and two RBI for the Wildcats (5-5, 5-4).

    • Montville took a 7-0 lead in the fourth inning and went on to beat Plainfield, 14-3, in Division II. Jack Treat led the Wolves (8-3, 3-1) with three hits and two RBI and Cole Terni had two hits and an RBI.

    • Reis Whitfield and Yankee de la Cruz-Nieves were each 4-for-4 as Grasso Tech defeated Vinal Tech 11-0 Thursday in six innings. The Eagles scored seven runs in the sixth, getting a complete-game, four-hitter by pitcher Gabe Grossman.

    • Andrew Hardin pitched a complete game, striking out five, walking none and allowing just one earned run in Griswold’s 8-4 win Thursday over Plainfield in ECC Division III. Calvin Oddo and Kyami Boyce each had two hits for Griswold (7-3, 3-1).

    H.S. boys’ volleyball

    • Norwich Free Academy improved to 11-1 with a 3-0 shutout of Academy of Aerospace and Engineering. Game scores were 25-8, 25-10 and 25-20. Alec Ferland had 11 assists and seven aces for the Wildcats while Keegan Johnston had seven kills and Gage Hinkley added six kills and six aces.

    • Norwich Tech swept Capital Prep in a CVL match on Thursday, winning 25-6, 25-6, 25-9. Bradley Martell had nine kills and Landon O’Brien and Mason Matthews had nine aces each for the Warriors (5-5, 5-4).

    H.S.boys’ golf

    • Sam Olmstead earned medalist honors with a 43 in Stonington’s 5-2 win over Stonington in an ECC Division II match at Stonington Country Club. Seamus Doyle had a 46 for the Bears (2-3, 1-2). Lucas Vincenti had a 44 for the Lancers (2-2, 1-2).

    • Medalist Chad Planeta fired a 46 for Grasso Tech, which beat Prince Tech, 203-265, and lost to Goodwin Tech, which had a 188, at Pequot Golf Club. The Eagles are 3-7.
