The Chestnut Street Playhouse is kicking off its 2023 season with a very popular comedy — Ken Ludwig’s “Lend Me a Tenor.”

The story, set in 1934, finds a world-famous singer arriving in Cleveland to sing the lead role in “Pagliacci.” The general manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company is giddy with anticipation. What he gets: a star who arrives late, and a star’s wife who erupts into jealousy — in other words, lots of (comic) drama.

Starring in the Chestnut Street Playhouse version, which runs Thursday through Feb. 19, are Brian O'Sullivan, Jonathan Demers, Heather Oakley, William Corriveau, Carly Mastriano, Suzanne McCormack, Raven Rose and John Felty.

Lucas Pereira and Keri Danner direct.

    “Lend Me a Tenor,” Chestnut Street Playhouse, 24 Chestnut St., Norwich; runs Thurs.-Feb. 19; performances at 7:30 p.m. Thurs.-Sat. and 2 p.m. Sun.; tickets $25, $22.50 for seniors; csp.ludus.com.
