Middletown (AP) - Middletown's schools superintendent says he wants to meet with police to discuss why a high school student was Tasered for allegedly fighting with police over his alleged theft of a meat pie from the cafeteria.

Superintendent Michael Frechette says he is concerned about what he called the use of force last Friday.

Acting Chief Patrick McMahon would not comment.

A police report says police used a Taser to subdue the 17-year-old student. He was arrested and charged with breach of peace, interfering with an officer and larceny.

He was held on a $5,000 bond and was released Friday.

Sgt. Mike Marino told The Middletown Press the student was stunned to cause pain and not to incapacitate him.

Marino said the use of the Taser was justified.
