Malloy to increase staffing at Connecticut State Crime Lab

Hartford (AP) - Gov. Dannel P. Malloy says additional funding to hire more staff at Connecticut's State Crime Lab has been approved.

The governor announced Thursday that money was reallocated to fund several positions, including an assistant director, a temporary retired forensic science examiner and four durational forensic science examiners. Six Connecticut Career Trainees will also be taught to replace state troopers working at the lab.

Malloy says the lab has struggled to keep up with a huge increase in workload and cuts in professional staff.

A state task force is investigating the operations and plans to release recommendations for improvements.
