New Haven police searching for dog shooter

New Haven (AP) — New Haven police are searching for a man who took his dog for a walk in a city park and shot it in the face last weekend.

The pit bull survived Sunday morning's incident in Edgewood Park. Police said Wednesday that the bullet missed the dog's brain by about a centimeter, but remains lodged in its jaw. Animal control officers are taking care of the pit bull.

Witnesses said the man tied the dog to a cement post before shooting it. One witness followed the man, but lost sight of him.

The suspect is described as a black man in his early 30s and about 5-feet-9 to 5-feet-11-inches tall. He was wearing a black coat, red baseball cap and jeans.

Anyone with information is urged to call New Haven police.
