UPDATED: Body found in woods near Bridgeport line

Trumbull — State Police Western District Major Crime Squad Detectives have started a criminal investigation at a site near Quarry Road in Trumbull, where search teams and cadaver dogs this morning discovered what appear to be human remains.

A press release from the state police said the scene will be processed and forensic and physical evidence will be collected. The Bridgeport State’s Attorney Office has also responded and is at the scene, state police said.

Troopers assigned to K-9 duty were conducting a search in the wooded area around 10 a.m. when a cadaver dog alerted on apparent human remains. The scene has been secured by troopers, assisted by Trumbull police. Additional K-9 cadaver teams have continued to search the area.

The remains have not been identified. The Office of the Chief State’s Medical Examiner will respond to the scene to remove the remains to conduct a postmortem examination to determine the manner and cause of death.

When identification has been established, the family will be notified prior to public release of that information. Police have been searching in that area for Eastern Connecticut State University student Alyssiah Wiley, who was reported missing from the campus in Willimantic April 24.
