Cops: Connecticut man burned estranged wife with hot oil

West Haven (AP) — A Connecticut man has been arrested after police say he threw hot cooking oil on his estranged wife while she was sleeping and caused her to suffer severe burns.

Police say the 41-year-old woman decided to sleep over Mohammad Chaudhry's home in West Haven on Tuesday night while visiting their teenage children. Authorities say one of the children called 911 shortly after 4:30 a.m. Wednesday to report the attack.

Police say the woman is being treated at the Bridgeport Hospital burn unit. Her name hasn't been released.

The couple's children told police their parents separated earlier this year. They said they awoke Wednesday morning when their mother was screaming in pain.

Charges against Chaudhry are pending. It's not clear if he has a lawyer.
