    L+M union head appointed to African-American Affairs Commission

    New London - Stephanie Johnson, president of AFT Local 5051 at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, has been appointed to the state legislature's African-American Affairs Commission, AFT Connecticut announced Tuesday.

    Johnson heads the union that represents licensed practical nurses and technicians at the hospital.

    "We applaud the State House of Representatives minority leader for selecting Stephanie Johnson to serve on the African-American Affairs Commission," Melodie Peters, president of AFT Connecticut, said in a news release. "I have seen firsthand Stephanie's passion for her community, and I have no doubt she will make a significant contribution to the mission of the commission."

    Johnson was appointed to a two-year term on the commission.
