Man admits stealing car, fleeing with owner clinging to roof
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — A Connecticut man has pleaded guilty to stealing a car from a grocery store, then driving away as the owner leaped onto the roof in a frantic effort to stop him.
The Connecticut Post reports Carlos Vidal Jr. pleaded guilty Thursday to larceny and assault charges.
Prosecutors say Vidal sped away with the victim clinging to the roof for about six blocks before he crashed into another car, then a house.
Authorities say the victim flew off the roof, suffering a broken neck and severed left arm that was later amputated.
Prosecutors say as the victim lay injured, Vidal ran away and stole a kiss from a woman who came out of her house to view the crash.
Vidal faces up to 15 years in prison.
