NEWTOWN — A Willington man was arrested this past week after allegedly selling a Newtown man's home without his knowledge, according to police.

Edwin Robert Lewis was charged with second-degree money laundering, first-degree identity theft, first-degree larceny, criminal impersonation and second-degree forgery, police said in a post on Facebook.

The arrest followed a "lengthy investigation" by Detective Chelsea Harold "into the fraudulent sale of a residence" in town, police said.

"An investigation was initiated after the legitimate homeowner found that his residence had been sold, and paperwork for the sale had been filed with the town, without his knowledge of authorization," police said.

"Throughout this investigation, (Harold) conducted numerous interviews with involved parties, executed several search and seizure warrants, and reviewed countless financial documents, which ultimately lead to Lewis' arrest," police said.

Lewis was released on $150,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Danbury on Aug. 11, police said.
