Man dies in fatal crash in New Haven

New Haven police are piecing together the events that led to the death of one man in a single-car crash outside Fort Hale Park on Saturday afternoon.

At approximately 6:12 p.m. Saturday, officers said they “found the front end of a Toyota Tundra abutted against a wooden guard rail on Woodward Avenue” across from the park’s entrance.

Police said the unidentified male driver was unresponsive when firefighters arrived and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators from the State of Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are performing an autopsy, police said.

The New Haven’s Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating the case. According to a release from the department, the team is seeking to determine the sequence of events that led up to the crash through evidence and witness interviews.

New Haven police urge any witnesses or people with information to call the department at 203-946-6304 or submit an anonymous tip at 866-888-8477.
