Man living under an alias in Conn. extradited to Canada for two homicides

A fugitive accused of killing two people and injuring a third in Canada in 2022 has been extradited after he was captured in Hartford last month living under a different name, federal officials said.

Officials said Kensworth Francis, 29, of the Bahamas, was brought back to Ontario on Friday by Canadian authorities, and he will now face two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder.

The charges stem from a shooting that occurred on July 23, 2022, at a nightclub in Ontario, according to officials. Around 3:30 a.m. that day, an argument occurred at the ATL Lounge in Vaughn Ontario, during which Francis pulled out a handgun and began shooting, fatally injuring two security guards, officials said.

A woman who was also shot at the club was transported to a hospital and survived, officials added.

Detectives identified Francis as the shooter afterward but were unable to locate him immediately. An investigation led authorities to Hartford, where they collaborated with the U.S Marshals, U.S. Attorney's Office and Hartford police to locate Francis.

He was taken into custody on March 26, living under the name John Johnson at an address on Magnolia Street, officials said. At the time, authorities also recovered an assault rifle with an extended magazine, two handguns, three extended magazines for pistols, and over 100 rounds of ammunition, they said.
