Nancy Wyman poised to become next chair of Connecticut Democrats

HARTFORD (AP) — Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman is on the verge of getting a new job.

Democratic Gov.-elect Ned Lamont announced Thursday that Wyman has agreed, at his request, to chair the Connecticut Democratic Party. She replaces Nick Balletto, who has held the unpaid position for four years.

Wyman's appointment still needs to be approved by the 72-member state central committee, which is expected to vote in January.

Lamont had kind words for Balletto, dismissing questions about whether tensions between the two men played a role in his decision to replace the tax accountant with Wyman, who served for two terms alongside Gov. Dannel Malloy. The change follows a successful election for Democrats in statewide and legislative races.

Lamont says Balletto was a strong leader but it's time to "turn the page."
