5 Democratic lawmakers will not take oath on opening day
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Five Democratic Connecticut lawmakers will not be taking the oath of office when the new General Assembly opens.
Democratic Secretary of the State Denise Merrill announced Wednesday she's received resignation letters from Senators Beth Bye of West Hartford, Terry Gerrantana of New Britain and Tim Larson of East Hartford. All three are taking jobs in Democratic Gov.-elect Ned Lamont's new administration.
Merrill received resignation letters on Tuesday from state Representatives Chris Soto of New London and James Albis of East Haven. They are also taking jobs with Lamont's administration.
Under state law, the governor has ten days to call special elections in all five districts. The elections must be held on the 46th day after that notice is issued.
Lamont's inaugural ceremonies begin at 12:30 p.m.
