Dead dog found in overturned crate in wooded area

Woodbridge (AP) — Animal welfare officials in Connecticut are trying to figure out who owned a dog found dead in crate in a secluded wooded area.

Woodbridge Animal Control wrote in a Facebook post Monday that the dog was found in an overturned pet crate by a public works employee.

The post says there is evidence the pit bull-type dog was still alive when left in a ditch and officials believe the crate was placed in an area where it would be difficult to find.

The post includes photos of the dead grey and white female dog that was wearing a purple collar.

Officials did not disclose exactly where the dog was found.

Animal cruelty is a felony offense in Connecticut.
