1 killed, 1 sent to hospital after West Hartford house fire

WEST HARTFORD (AP) — One person was killed and another was sent to a hospital after fire struck a house in West Hartford, officials said.

The fire in a single-family home was reported shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday, Fire Chief Greg Priest said in a statement.

Heavy flames were coming from the front of the house when firefighters arrived, Priest said. Firefighters worked to put the fire out while looking for one or two people who were still inside, he said.

One of the people trapped in the house “suffered non-survivable injuries" in the blaze and was pronounced dead, Priest said. The victim's name was not immediately released. The second person was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
