Add Purvis to list of UConn players declaring for draft

For the third time in recent weeks, one of UConn coach Kevin Ollie's players declared for the NBA Draft.

Ollie is fine with all of their decisions, including the latest by redshirt junior Rodney Purvis, as long as they avoid hiring an agent to keep their options open until making an educated decision about their future.

"As I said before, I do like the rule because it gives them an opportunity to go against other great players and then sit down with a general manager and get a true assessment of where they stand," Ollie said in a release. "I just hope that they don't sign with an agent right way, so it keeps their option open to go back to school with their eligibility."

Sophomore Daniel Hamilton and junior Amida Brimah also recently decided to test the NBA Draft waters.

The decision deadline is May 25.

The 6-foot-4 Purvis began the season as a starting guard before moving to the sixth man role in mid-January. He returned to the starting lineup for UConn's postseason run that ended in the second round of the NCAA tournament. He led the Huskies (25-11) in scoring at 12.8 points per game, adding career best averages of three rebounds and two assists per game. He was second in 3-pointers made with 70.

Purvis has one year of eligibility remaining. He stated after UConn's season-ending loss to Kansas that he plans to return to school.

With all three Huskies not projected to be selected in the first two rounds, the likelihood is that they'll return unless they receive positive feedback that would affect their decision.

Ollie will support whatever choice any of them makes.

"Hopefully, they will make the right decision for themselves and their family," Ollie said. "If that is to come back to UConn, we will certainly welcome them back. And if it means to move on, we will be there to support them."
