    UConn's Bueckers has ankle surgery

UConn’s Paige Bueckers underwent surgery Friday to repair an osteochondral defect on her right ankle, the school announced Saturday afternoon.

Bueckers had surgery at UConn Health. The school said it was successful and that she’s expected to be ready for preseason in September.

The school didn’t say when the injury occurred.

Bueckers was the first freshman to win the Wooden Award, the Naismith Trophy, the Associated Press Player of the Year and United States Basketball Writers Association Player of the Year honors. She started all 29 games for the Huskies and led the team in 3-point shooting percentage (46.4, 64 of 138), scoring (20 ppg), assists (5.8 apg) and steals (2.3 spg). She also set a school single-game record for assists (14) in a 97-68 win over Butler on Feb. 27.
