    Keith Urban rocks Mohegan Sun

With "American Idol" all wrapped up, judge Keith Urban has returned full-time to his day job: being a country-music superstar.

He's been out on tour in support of his latest album, "Ripcord," and he's playing the Mohegan Sun Arena on Friday.

Urban is renowned for putting on a great show with a rock-concert feel and plenty of fiery guitar playing (yes, the guy can shred). The concerts also boast a set list chock full of Nashville chart-toppers. Urban has, after all, scored hit singles galore over the years, among them "John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16," "You Look Good in My Shirt," "Days Go By" and "You'll Think of Me."

On this tour, Urban's also got great supporting acts. Brett Eldredge is a good match stylistically with Urban; both infuse their country with healthy doses of pop and rock. Eldredge has seen his songs like "Drunk on Your Love," "Don't Ya" and "Mean to Me" become radio staples. (So far, it looks as though he hasn't included any tunes off his just-released Christmas album, "Glow," in his set lists, but you never know.)

Fun note about Eldredge: The lifelong Chicago Cubs fan skipped the recent CMA Awards so he could attend Game 7 of the World Series. Then, he ended up being part of the Cubs' parade from Wrigley Field to Grant Park, and he performed the Cubs' anthem, "Go Cubs Go," with members of the team. Does this make him the Bill Murray of country music?

On Friday's bill, too, is Maren Morris, the "My Church" singer-songwriter who just won the CMA Award for best new artist.

Keith Urban, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Mohegan Sun Arena; also, Brett Eldredge and Maren Morris; $75, $95; 1-800-745-3000.
