ECSO continues season with "Sound Waves"
The 2016-17 season continues for the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra Saturday when they present "Sound Waves" in New London's Garde Arts Center.
The concert, as always under the guidance of music director/conductor Toshiyuki Shimada, will feature two soloists. Flutist Joanna Wu, last year's winner of the annual ECSO Instrumental Competition winner, performs as a special guest on Carl Nielsen's Flute Concerto, and the orchestra's 2nd Violin Principal, Joan Winters, stars in the show-opening Méditation from Jules Massenet's Thaïs.
Also on the bill will be performances of Alan Hovhaness's "And God Created Great Whales" and, in a rousing finish, Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2.
Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, 8 p.m. Saturday, Garde Arts Center, 325 State St., New London; $36-$56, $16 for military; (860) 443-2876.
