Songwriter John Sebastian plays the Kate Saturday

    John Sebastian

Quick! How many of the original members of the Lovin' Spoonful can you name?

Let's see ... well, obviously there's John Sebastian. And that, ah, Zak guy. (Editor's note: you're thinking of guitarist Zal Yanovski.) And ... that's it. I'm out.

Exactly. That's because Sebastian sang and wrote (or co-wrote) the vast majority of their Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame-status catalog — including "You Didn't Have to be So Nice," "Daydream," "Summer in the City," "Do You Believe in Magic?" and "Rain on the Roof."

Yes, Sebastian — who performs Saturday at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center — is also the dude behind the "Welcome Back, Kotter" theme song. He's got a wealth of material and a genuine and witty stage presence. Should be a fun and nostalgic show.

John Sebastian, 8 p.m. Saturday, Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center; $62-$65; 1-877-503-1286, thekate.org.
