UConn's Breanna Stewart leads U.S. to U18 Gold

Breanna Stewart, an incoming freshman for the UConn women's basketball team, was named tournament Most Valuable Player late Sunday night as USA Basketball's U18 National Team fought back from a double-digit deficit to win the FIBA Americas championship gold medal with a 71-47 victory over Brazil in Gurabo, Puerto Rico.

The gold medal was the sixth straight for the United States at the U18s. Stewart, from North Syracuse, N.Y., the tournament's second leading scorer, had 13 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, two blocked shots and two steals in 34 minutes of the championship game. She averaged 14 points and 7.8 rebounds in the tournament.

Also headed to UConn this year, Morgan Tuck contributed 15 points and 11 rebounds, finishing with a tournament-best 17.8 points per game. Moriah Jefferson, a third future UConn player starting for the U.S., added four points and four assists.
