Ledyard - An alert Gales Ferry resident helped police track the suspect in a burglary Friday at a vacant home on Route 12.
Ledyard police said at 12:07 p.m. they responded to a 911 call from a witness who had observed a person flee from inside a vacant home. The fleeing individual entered a vehicle parked in an adjacent driveway and drove off on Route 12, but not before the alert witness was able to capture a photograph of the vehicle as it left, according to Ledyard police Lt. Michael T. Finkelstein.
Police said they found that the individual had entered through the rear of the home and was in the process of removing copper piping when he fled. Police were able to track down the vehicle owner, then ultimately the individual who had been using the vehicle.
As a result, Anibal Rosado, 30, of 1388 North Road in Groton was charged with third-degree burglary, criminal attempt to commit sixth-degree larceny and third-degree criminal mischief.
He is slated to appear June 18 in New London Superior Court.
