    H.S. roundup: LoPriore leads Vikings to victory

    East Lyme — Mikaela LoPriore pitched a four-hitter and drove in all her team's runs as the East Lyme High School softball team opened its season with a 3-1 win over Granby on Saturday.

    Kaylie Crosby, Alexis Bell and LoPriore had two hits each and LoPriore had a two-run double in the first inning. Granby is 2-1.

    In other games:

    • Caroline Taber pitched her second no-hitter of the season as Fitch beat Coventry, R.I., 10-0 in five innings. Taber (2-0) struck out 12. Jackie Lewis was 4-for-4 with a pair of triples and three runs, Jonell Hober (two runs, two RBI) and Taylor Wolfgang (three RBI) had three hits each and Taber was 2-for-3 for Fitch (2-0). 

    • Rockville's Morgan Bolduk struck out 14 in a 4-3 victory over Waterford in eight innings. Sara Buscetto was 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored for Waterford (0-2). Kazi Walker allowed just three hits in the loss, striking out 10 and walking seven, and Ally Pezzolesi doubled for the Lancers.

    • Mallory Kane was 3-for-3 with four runs scored and Rhianna Maynard 3-for-3 with a homer and four RBI in Stonington's 24-0 victory over Parish Hill in a game shortened to five innings due to the mercy rule. Trinity Lennon struck out nine for Stonington (2-0) and Cameron Dreher had two hits, including a triple, three RBI and three runs scored.

    • Old Lyme lost to Westbrook 16-2 in a Shoreline Conference game. Freshman Liz Richard doubled and Audrey Gavin and Bella Cohen drove in runs for Old Lyme.

    Baseball

    • Matt Pryzbysz singled, hit a two-run homer and scored twice, leading Old Lyme to an 11-6 win over New London. Ross Golebiewski doubled and scored three times, Alex Bellas doubled and drove in two runs and Brett Hartmann was the winning pitcher for Old Lyme (3-0). Gabe Cortorreal doubled, tripled and drove in three runs for New London (0-2).

    • Fairfield Warde, ranked fourth in the state poll, scored three runs over the final two innings to rally for a 3-1 win over No. 10 Montville in a nonleague game. Montville is 1-1.

    • Shane Foster's two-run double with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning rallied Stonington to a 3-1 win over Wheeler in a nonleague game. Ben Dellacono singled and doubled for Stonington (3-0). Wheeler is 0-1.

    • Justin Keating was 4-for-4 and Kevin Johnson drove in three runs and scored three times as Waterford beat south Kingstown, R.I., 20-5. Will Sherman, Micheal Rocchetti and Johnson had two hits each, Sherman scored three runs and rocchetti drove in two runs and scored three times for Waterford (2-0) and Thomas Sutera earned the victory.

    • Matt Spang drove in three runs and was the winning pitcher as East Lyme beat South Windsor 7-3 in a nonleague game. Spang, who allowed six hits over 6 1-3 innings, was 3-for-4 with a double. Mike Morgan had two hits and scored three runs and Logan Banker scored twice and had two hits for East Lyme (1-1).

    • Ledyard scored unearned runs in the sixth and seventh innings, rallying for a 6-5 win over Norwich Tech in a nonleague game. Nick Traystman picked up the win in relief and Anthony Viteritto singled, doubled and scored twice for Ledyard (2-0). Evan LePage was 2-for-3 with a RBI and Steve Sieczkowski pitched four innings of relief, allowing no earned runs and two hits for Norwich Tech (0-1).

    • Nic Vlaun pitched a three-hitter as NFA beat Darien 6-0. Brandon Russo had two hits and Andy Grant drove in two runs for NFA (2-0).  

    Girls' tennis

    • Old Lyme swept singles play en route to a 5-2 win over Coginchaug in a Shoreline Conference meet. Meredith Aird, Emily Brault, Marissa Smith and Shannon Nosal had straight-set wins for Old Lyme.

    Girls' track and field

    • Senior Kiah Strickland won both the 100 high hurdles (17.54) and javelin (104-1) to help Montville place third (115 points) at the Bellinger Invite in East Hampton. Woodland won the meet (164 points).

    Ying Zi Huang won the triple jump (31-8) and was fifth in the long jump (14-4.25), Madeline Campbell won the long jump (15-5.5) and was fourth in the discus (83-9), and Tavahnee West won the 100 (14.09) for Montville. Other placewinners were Lauren Netopski (discus, fifth, 83-8; and shot put, sixth, 26-10.5), Nadia Dallas (100, third, 14.21), Molly Podeszwa (shot put, third, 28-7), Hanna Marchini (800, fifth, 2:40.84), Sheyenne Gillis (300 hurdles, fifth, 58.68), and Suzanna Fitzgerald took fifth in the 3,200 (12:58.26).

    Haley Bedard West, Madeline, and Dallas were runner-up in the 4x100 relay (56.05), Laura Commons, Abigail Baukus, Marchini and Strickland were fourth in the 4x400 (4:49.58), and Suzanna Fitzgerald, Karishma Chouhan, Isabella Persons, and Commons took fifth in the 4x800 relay (11:31.90).

    • Ledyard's Rhema Phillips won the 100 hurdles (17.92) and the long jump (14-9) at the Hand Invite. Teammate Shelby Olsen was sixth in the 300 hurdles (57.98).

    Boys' track and field

    • Ledyard’s Colin Wiltshire won the 110 hurdles (21.86) and long jump (17-8.25) and placed second in the triple jump (35-7) at the Hand Invite. Mychai Sebastian won the triple jump (36-0) and was fifth in the 200 (26.41), Rayne Saylor was sixth in the 110 hurdles (28.43), Chad Lockaby, Nate McCracken, Jakob Maranzano and Terry Zhao finished third in the 4x800 (10:52.54), and Berkely Watchmann, Lockaby, Maranzano, McCracken took fifth in the 4x400 (4:26.88) for the Colonels.

    • Tyler Quidgeon won the javelin (145-0) and Steve Bollinger was third (132-0) for Montville at the Bellringer Invite. Old Saybrook won the team title (169) and Montville was third (86).

    Montville's other place winners were Jordane Virgo (long jump, second, 18-8; fifth, 110 high hurdles, 17.80), Nick Strickland (300 hurdles, third, 45.62), Austin Concasia (pole vault, third, 10-6), Patrick Podeszwa (high jump, third, 5-8), Dawson Milbauer (triple jump, third, 37-9), Van Heller (800, fourth, 2:16.84), Tyler Quidgeon (110 high hurdles, fourth, 18.47), Dawson Milbauer (300 hurdles, fifth, 47.22), Will Manley (shot put, fifth, 36-5.5), and Via Alvaran (110 high hurdles, sixth, 20.42)

    Van Heller, Bradley Johnson, Caleb Sheldon and Andrew Pethrick were fifth in the 4x100 relay (49.30), and Heller, Milbauer, Sheldon, and Strickland finished sixth in the 4x400 (3:58.50).
