Fiberglass, be damned! The boats showcased in Mystic this weekend are paeans to wooden construction and traditional beauty.

Upwards of 100 classic and contemporary creations will be on view during the WoodenBoat Show at Mystic Seaport. This 24th annual event celebrating "the design and craftsmanship of wooden craft" is hosted in partnership with WoodenBoat Publications.

Demonstrations and workshops are all part of the activities. Vendors will offer pretty much everything a boater would need on the water, along with antiques, books, maritime art and more.

One of the fun aspects here is the Family BoatBuilding tent. Teams build their own canoe or skiff over the course of the weekend. Participants open the kits (which they buy) at 9 a.m. Friday, and they get to work — until 3 p.m. Sunday.
