Fifth arrest made in connection with New London AK-47 shooting

New London — Police on Tuesday afternoon made a fifth arrest related to a late November shooting that involved a Norinco AK-47 assault rifle.

Bobby H. Porter, 28, of Taftville was charged on an arrest warrant with criminal attempt to commit first-degree assault, unlawful discharge of a firearm, first-degree reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a firearm and two counts of violation of a protective order.

Previously charged in the Nov. 29 shooting incident at 48 Crystal Ave. — where the Thames River Apartments are located — are Rashon A. Saunders, 27, 60 Boulder Drive; Andre N. Cluff, 27, of 111 Truman St.; Nehamiah Carrol, 24, of 48 Crystal Ave., Apt. A78, and Jeffery Saunders, 25, of Bronx, N.Y.

Court records show that Rashon Saunders and Cluff, arrested on weapons-related charges, remain in custody with appearances in New London Superior Court scheduled for later this month.

Carrol and Jeffery Saunders, facing drug-related charges stemming from search warrants, have been released from custody, but also have court dates scheduled at New London Superior Court in the coming month.

Records for Porter are not yet available.

Police said they continue to investigate the shooting, during which multiple weapons were fired.
