Ledyard should adopt 2.0 insurance plan

The Ledyard Town Council will be overpaying for the employee health insurance for the 2016-2017 budget by over $4 million if approved as proposed. Here are the numbers being charged by the current insurance company for an employee plus one policy: $21,964 to town, employee pays 17 percent ($3,734), taxpayers pay $18,230 plus a deductible of $2,000 upfront.

I believe the Town Council should join the Connecticut Partnership Plan 2.0 so taxpayers can save money. The cost for this new plan would be $8,244 per policy, employee pays 17 percent ($1,401), taxpayer’s pay $6,843. By switching the insurance company the taxpayers will save $13,387 per policy. Based on 300 employee policies (believe there's more) this would be a $4 million savings. This amount will be more than 7.5 percent of the proposed budget. This change will save hundreds of dollars per household.

Please attend council meetings and let your voice be heard for change. If the council doesn't change the insurance to the Connecticut Partnership Plan 2.0 by budget voting day, vote "no" and keep letting them know what we the people want.

Status quo is not in the best interest of us taxpayers. For more information, you can visit the website http://www.osc.ct.gov/CTPartner/.
