Sarah Silverman does standup at Foxwoods at Saturday

Sarah Silverman is one of the most brutally clever comedians and satirists at work today — though she seemed, at this point in a long career, to actually be distracted by a heckler at a Mohegan Sun show last October.

What frightens me is that, in our hyper-sensitive society, artists like Silverman are catching so much flack that it's throwing them off their games. For example, college campuses used to be prime testing grounds for comics because they could anticipate unfiltered reaction to material dealing with sex, race and other cultural taboos.

Not anymore. Many college kids are so earnestly self-righteous that they couldn't tell satire if Jonathan Swift tattooed it on their foreheads.

The point, I guess, is that I'm rooting for you, Sarah. You're funny as hell and a lot of us DO get what you're trying to do. See for yourself when Silverman does her act Saturday in the Grand Theater at Foxwoods.

Sarah Silverman, 9 p.m. Saturday, Grand Theater, Foxwoods; $44-$54; 1-877-503-1286.
