Ed Sheeran plays two nights of shows at Mohegan Sun

It was only four years ago that Ed Sheeran made his first appearance in the U.S. while opening for Taylor Swift's iconic Red Tour — a move that rocketed the singer-songwriter into the international limelight. And only four years later, he has been described as the biggest male pop star in the world by the likes of GQ and Rolling Stone. His latest album, '÷' (Divide), speaks for itself — it's the best-selling album of 2017, even outselling Kendrick Lamar and Bruno Mars.

So it should be safe to say that fans are expecting a lot for his upcoming back-to-back performances at Mohegan Sun this weekend. He did, after all, sell out his last concert at the venue in 2015.

And even though the Arena will most likely be swarming with teenagers who would be happy enough just to hear his hit single "Shape of You" (a song that has already received over 1 billion hits on the internet streaming service Spotify after debuting in January), Sheeran's ability to universally relate with songs about everyday life will probably deliver for everyone else.

Ed Sheeran, 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Mohegan Sun Arena; $85-$105; 1-800-745-3000.
