Salem Apple Festival offers apple dishes galore

The Salem Apple Festival starts at 9 a.m. Saturday and continues till all the pies and baked goods are sold. (Day File Photo)

In the fine tradition of Bubba Blue in "Forrest Gump" ("There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad ...") and Harlan Pepper in "Best in Show" ("I used to be able to name every nut that there was. And it used to drive my mother crazy ... I'd say, 'Peanut. Hazelnut. Cashew nut. Macadamia nut.' That was the one that would send her into going crazy. She'd say, 'Would you stop naming nuts!'"), we are going to bust out our list of apple dishes that will be served up and sold at the vaunted Salem Apple Festival on Saturday.

What can you find there? Apple pies, apple pancakes, apple bettys, apple brownies, apple turnovers, apple cider, apple fritters, apple sundaes ...

    And on it goes.

Get there early, since this 47th annual event held by the Congregational Church of Salem only runs until all the pies and baked goods are gone.

Apple Festival, starts at 9 a.m. Saturday and continues till all the pies and baked goods are sold, Salem Green, just north of routes 82/85 roundabout; (860) 859-1211.
