    • The Valley Regional/Old Lyme co-op won’t get a chance to defend its CIAC Class S championship this fall as a gain in enrollment has resulted in a move up to Class M.

The Warriors won the program’s first state title last season in the Class S-Large Division. The number of divisions has gone back to four after being doubled last year due to scheduling issues after adopting recommendations from the Connecticut State Medical Society Sport Medicine Committee over player safety.

Six of the Eastern Connecticut Conference’s 14 teams will compete in Class M — Bacon Academy, Killingly, Ledyard, New London, Waterford and Woodstock Academy.

Griswold, Montville, Plainfield, Stonington and Windham are in Class S, and Norwich Free Academy is Class LL. East Lyme and Fitch will play in Class L, as will the new Thames River co-op, comprised of Grasso Tech, Norwich Tech and St. Bernard.
