Local roundup: Spinners end Tigers' five-game win streak

Norwich — Lowell’s Josh Ockimey lined a 3-2 pitch to centerfield with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game Friday and Mitch Gunsolus followed with a single to right to give the Spinners a 2-1 victory over the Connecticut Tigers in a New York-Penn League game at Dodd Stadium, preventing the Tigers from winning their sixth straight.

The Tigers (7-7) scored their run in the eighth when Keaton Jones led off with a double and later scored on a wild pitch. The Tigers, however, had the bases loaded with no outs in the inning and were only able to push across a single run.

The loss spoiled six shutout innings by Connecticut's Spenser Watkins, who scattered three hits and struck out five.

It was the series-finale against Lowell (11-4).

The Tigers will play at home tonight in the first game of a three-game series against Vermont (7:30 p.m.).
