    Local roundup: Waterford advances to 9-10 softball state final

    New London — Maddie Burrows pitched a one-hitter and went 3-for-3 as Waterford beat South Windsor 10-0 in the Connecticut Little League Section II softball (ages 9-10) title game on Thursday night.

    Waterford plays the winner of Friday night's Shelton-Westport Section I final in a best-of-three series, which begins Saturday at Orange.

    Milena Walker had three hits, including a two-run homer, and Abby Maynard doubled twice for Waterford. Anna Donahue singled and doubled, and Autumn Brothers tripled for Waterford.

    Sutera tournament (11-12)

    • Jack Carney pitched a complete game and doubled as Lyme/Old Lyme beat New London 2-1 in the championship game on Wednesday night. Tait Sawden had a solo home run and Conner Wyman had two hits for Lyme/Old Lyme. Noah James pitched a complete game and had two hits, and Elijah Morton doubled for New London.

    Sutera tournament (9-10)

    • Owen Elmer pitched a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and also homered as East Lyme beat New London 10-0 in the championship game on Wednesday night. Drew Beckham doubled and tripled, Chris Stevens doubled twice, and Nathan O'Neil and Gavin O'Brien had two hits each for East Lyme.

    State LL baseball (11-12)

    • Both games were rained out in the state championship at Newington, and will be played Friday. District 11 champion Norwich plays Southington South in a losers' bracket game at 5:30 p.m., and District 10 champion Waterford plays Stamford North in a winners' bracket game at 8 p.m.

    • Ryan Brahm was 3-for-3 and scored twice as Johnny Rockets beat Three Rivers 10-2 on Wednesday night. Josh Vincent earned the win, allowing three hits and one run over five innings. Nick Fessenden and Chance Gendron had two hits each, and Tyler Minor drove in three runs for Johnny Rockets. Matt Johnson had two hits for Three Rivers.

    Tigers rained out

    • The game between the Connecticut Tigers and the Mahoning Valley Scrappers at Dodd Stadium was rained out. It will not be made up.
