    Local roundup: Hill sparks UConn to victory

    Orlando, Fla. — The UConn women's soccer team picked up its first American Athletic Conference win of the season, beating Central Florida 3-2 on Sunday.

    Rachel Hill's second goal of the game came in the 81st minute and broke a 2-2 tie. Samantha McGuire had a goal and an assist and Emily Armstrong made three saves for UConn (9-2, 1-1).

    College field hockey

    • Top-ranked UConn beat California 10-0 in a nonleague game. Charlotte Veitner had three goals and an assist, Roisin Upton had two goals and two assists and Pippa Lewis had a goal and an assist for UConn (9-0), which has won 23 straight games.

    H.S. cross country

    • The Ledyard boys' team finished fourth in the 32-team Varsity Division I race on Saturday in the Ocean State XC Invitational at East Greenwich, R.I. Aaron Norcia was Ledyard's top finisher in 11th place (16:58) and teammate Jacob Money was 22nd (17:22).

    Football

    • St. Thomas More took a 26-0 lead over Harbor School at halftime and went on to a 33-0 win on Saturday. Ledyard's Leo Clinton and Montville's Tyler Quidgeon each scored a touchdown for the Chancellors. Gilberto Torres rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown and defensive tackle Delton Rogers had four sacks, two forced fumbled and a safety for T-More.

    Road racing

    • Waterford's Tracy Montoya won the Move for Massage 10K in his hometown. Montoya finished the race in 41:54 and Heather Bradley of Guilford was the top women's finisher in fourth place (45:23).

    Rounding out the top five were Brendan Toth of Pawcatuck (43:21), Daniel Clements (45:18) and Jessica Lynn Pereplyotchik (45:43). Mike Kerin won the 5K race (20:39) and Stella Barth of New London was the top women's finisher, coming in third in 23:19. The top five also included Kevin Gallerani of Uncasville (21:48), Joe Schoonmaker of Waterford (25:04) and Debbie Rempt of North Fanklin (25:20).
