    Local roundup: No. 1 Fitch softball beats Waterford 4-1

    Groton — Jonell Hobert went 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs as Fitch remained unbeaten with a 4-1 softball victory over Waterford on Tuesday.

    Caroline Taber pitched a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts and Ally Georgetti had two hits and scored twice for the Falcons (13-0), the top-ranked team in the GameTimeCT/Register Top 10 state poll.

    Rylee MacMillan also singled and had an RBI for Fitch while Sara Buscetto went 2-for-3 for the Lancers (9-5).

    In another game:

    • Raven Houck had a double, a solo home run, and three runs as Wheeler beat Putnam, 12-6. Kendra Perez scattered six hits with seven strikeouts for Wheeler (8-4) and Nikki Collins went 2-for-3 with three runs.

    H.S. boys' golf

    • Sean Gilot shot a 41 for Norwich Free Academy in its 7-0 win over Fitch in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Large Division. Miles Joyner, Spencer Molkenthin, Noah Straub and Jack Sullivan each shot a 43 for the Wildcats (9-2, 6-0). The Falcons are 0-14, 0-6.

    • Drew Aitken shot a 2-over-par 38 to earn medalist honors for Killingly in its 7-0 win over Montville in the ECC Medium. Killingly is 16-0, 6-0. Brian O’Sullivan shot a 49 for the Indians (4-4, 2-4).

    • Wheeler's Mike Anderson and Jake Umphlett were co-medalists at 46 as the Lions beat Griswold 5-2 in the ECC Small Division. Alec Rustici also won his match for Wheeler (3-4, 2-1).

    • Portland edged Old Lyme, 162-165, in a Shoreline Conference match at Black Hall Club. Graham Aird and Mason Swaney each shot a 40 for the Wildcats and Cam Roberts added a 41.

    • Behind medalist Jonah Dupuis (40), Parish Hill beat Norwich Tech 195-235 in a CSC match. Dylan Renshaw led Norwich Tech (3-7, 3-5) with a 51.

    H.S. girls' tennis

    • Brynn Doughty, Janki Patel, Sandrine Etienne and George Anne Amar all won at singles as New London won every match in straight sets in a 7-0 win over Montville in the ECC Small. New London is 5-5, 5-3. The Indians are 1-8, 1-6.

    • Olivia Lyon won the No. 1 singles match in straight sets for Ledyard in its 4-3 win over Bacon Academy in the ECC Small Division. The Colonels (6-3, 6-1) also picked up doubles wins from the teams of Cara Tran-Stephanie Vetrano and Jenna McHale-Erin Healy.

    H.S. boys' tennis

    • Waterford swept past Killingly, winning both nonleague matches 7-0. Mike Gianakos, James Zhu and Hugh Sokolski won two matches each at singles for Waterford (9-2). Dylan Vitale-David Perez, Adam Pinch-David Hausmann and Hugh Mugavero-Sebastian Vine swept the doubles.

    • New London/Wheeler beat Montville 6-1 in an ECC Small Division match. Bahaa Hoda, Zack Skrabacz and Areeb Mirza won singles matches for New London/Wheeler (6-3, 5-3), which also got a win at No. 1 doubles from Deyvon Verdini and Bharat Dhyani along with a pair of forfeit wins. Rohit Sinha won his match for Montville (3-6, 3-5).

    • James Burris, Joe Reiser, Reese Berman and Jack Hisle each won two singles matches as Williams swept St. Thomas More in a doubleheader 7-0, 7-0.

    • Stonington beat Woodstock 5-2 in an ECC Large Division match. Mitchell Edwards, Chris Tsang and William Michelson won singles matches for Stonington (5-3, 4-3), which also got wins from the teams of David Manzella-Ben Anderson and Sam Snediker-Spencer Jones.

    H.S. boys' track

    • Norwich Tech won the CSC East Division meet with a score of 172. Grasso Tech was sixth with 21. Norwich Tech's Mike Sanon was a triple winner, taking the 100 (11.41), 200 (24.22) and triple jump (39-11) and teammate Joe Labrecque won the long jump at 18-1. Sanon, Labracque, Jacob Sulik and Preston Minor won the 4x100 relay.

    • Tyriq Scott won the long jump (20-9.5), triple jump (35-2) and javelin (145-1) as Fitch beat Woodstock, 145-5, in the ECC Large. Adrian Albo won the 100 (11.7) and 200 (24.4), Patrick Scheurer won the 110 hurdles (16.4) and 300 hurdles (45.3) and teamed with Cleon McLish and Isiah Sebastian to win the 4x100 relay (45.9). Brian Robinson also won the discus (150-4) and shot put (46-5).

    • Old Lyme lost a pair of Shoreline Conference meets, falling to Haddam-Killingworth 110-25 and Westbrook 68-64. Dan Coke won the 1600 and 3200 for Old Lyme and teammate Corey Knepshield won the 800.

    H.S. girls' track

    • Grasso Tech's Rhema Phillips won a pair of events at the CSC East meet. Windham Tech won with 139 points, Norwich Tech was third with 65 and Grasso Tech won fourth with 64. Phillips won the 100 hurdles (15.98) and long jump (16-3). Norwich Tech got wins from Meghan Moore (200, 29.20) and Shella Jeanty (300 hurdles, 55.49) and the 4x100 relay team on Kellsey Gumbs, Jeanty, Chloe Guzman and Moore (55.09).

    • Briana Robinson won the 200 (27.4) and 300 hurdles (51.7) and ran on two winning relay teams as Fitch beat Woodstock, 79-71, in the ECC Large. Alicia Moroyoqui won the 800 (2:26) and teamed with Lily Johnson, Catherine Albo and Robinson to win the 4x400 (4:21.8) for the Falcons (4-2, 2-2). Also, Madison Powe won the 100 (12.6) and long jump (16-3) and teamed with Denise Strong, Jenna Bendfelt and Robinson to win the 4x100 (52.6), and Maddie Ellis, Kitty Potter, Habeeba Kamel, and Moroyoqui won the 4x800 (11:05.9).

    • Old Lyme's Samantha Lee won the 400 as the Wildcats beat Westbrook 79-58 and lost to Haddam-Killingworth 109-30. Danielle McCarthy has a pair of second-place finishes.

    College baseball

    • Bobby Melley was 4-for-4, leading UConn to a 5-0 win over UMass. Andrew Zapata (3-1) picked up the win, allowing one hit over five innings. Former Stonington High and Avery Point standout Doug Domnarski allowed two hits in 1.1 innings of relief, striking out two. Melley homered and scored twice for the Huskies (25-22).

    Men's lacrosse

    • Coast Guard Academy had five playeers named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference all-conference second team: senior Kyle Carosotto and freshmen Jack Pope, Tom Bleifuss, Connor Ellis and Colin Cashin.

    Carosotto made the team as a short stick defender, collecting 33 groundballs and scoring two goals. Pope, a midfielder, had 22 goals and six assists, including six hat tricks. Ellis (long stick midfield) led the NEWMAC with 46 caused turnovers while Bleifuss (defense) was sixth with 26. Cashin (faceoff) was second in the conference, winning 158 faceoffs and his 80 groundballs were tops on the team.

    H.S. volleyball

    • Ray Wang had 24 kills, nine aces and two blocks to lead NFA to a 3-2 win over Hand. Game scores were 25-23, 20-25, 25-23, 20-25, 15-10. Tam Edmond added two aces for the Wildcats (2-7).
