    Local roundup: NFA's Conley commits to Div. II school in Florida

    Norwich — Hailey Conley, who helped lead Norwich Free Academy to the Eastern Connecticut Conference girls' basketball tournament championship and a berth in the Class LL state quarterfinals, has committed to Division II Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

    Conley, who will be a senior for the Wildcats, announced that she has accepted a scholarship offer through her AAU team, the Connecticut Storm, on Facebook and Twitter posts.

    Conley, a guard, was named to The Day's 2015-16 All-Area girls' basketball team last season and has been a varsity performer since her freshman season. She had a tremendous postseason for NFA, particularly in the Class LL tournament when she scored 22 points in a 41-34 second-round win over Wilton and 30 in a quarterfinal loss to eventual champion Stamford.

    Nova Southeastern is a member of the Sunshine State Conference and went 24-7 in 2015-16. The Sharks won the SSC regular-season title and earned an NCAA Division II tournament bid, reaching the second round.

    District 10 softball (11-12)

    • Pawcatuck advanced to the championship series with a 6-5 semifinal win over East Lyme. Pawcatuck will play Waterford, an 11-0 winner over Montville in Friday's night game, in Game 1 of the best-of-three series at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Waterford. Maddie Stepski won the game for Pawcatuck with a game-winning triple while winning pitcher Shea O'Connor and Finella Smith each had doubles. Madison Sipstrom, Simone Cappon, Allie Laplante, Jenny  Sherrod and Jaylyn Mueller had hits for East Lyme.

    District 10 Senior softball

    • Waterford Junior/Senior won the District 10 Senior League championship by sweeping a best-of-three series against New London. After winning 11-10 on Thursday, Waterford clinched to title with a 13-2 win on Friday to advance to state tournament beginning July 12 in Durham.

    District 10 baseball (11-12)

    • Mystic defeated New Londno 15-0 as Jeffrey Lalima pitched a no-hitter and struck out six. Ryan O'Connor hit a grand slam, added an RBI single and scored three runs while Caleb Mewha had two doubles, Jason Erb had a single and bases-clearing double, Colin Anderson scored there runs and Timmy Lynch (triple) and Cam McGugan (double) each scored twice.

    • Montville defeated Pawcatuck/North Stonington 5-3 as Chas Terni pitched a two-hitter and struck out eight while Chris Cullen hit a solo home run, Cameron DeCecco had an RBI single and Justin Saad had a single and scored a run. Bobby Dimock hit a three-run homer for P/NS.

    District 10 baseball (10-11)

    • Mystic defeated New London 10-2 as Luke Noreika and Ryan Carney each had two hits, including doubles, and Dylan Meyer homered and drove in two runs. Zion Fraser had two doubles for New London.

    District 10 baseball (9-10)

    • Pawcatuck defeated East Lyme 5-4 on Thursday night as Luke Lowry's sacrifice fly scored Dylan Cimini with the eventual winning run. Cimini had two hits and also stole a base hile Aaron Lopresto had a single, two walks and stolen base. Quinn Killoy and Sebby Decosta had two hits apiece for East Lyme.

    District 10 softball (9-10)

    • Shaelin McMunn pitched a no-hitter as East Lyme beat Lyme/Old Lyme 11-1 in four innings on Thursday. McMunn struck out 10 with five walks. Ava Roth had two hits, Allie Cabral and Ava Roach each drove in a run and Jillian Arnold had a two-run isngle for East Lyme. Lyme/Old Lyme pitcher Jamie Bucior struck out six and teammate Kaitlyn Ward scored a run.

    NECBL

    • Chris Hess (Rhode Island) hit a two-run single to start a four-run first inning for the Ocean State Waves as it beat the Mystic Schooners, 5-3, in a rain-shortened five inning game. Austin Upshaw (Kennesaw State) went 2-for-2, including a double, with a run and an RBI for Ocean State (12-6) and Jack Perkins (Stetson) scattered five hits over four innings with one earned run and four strikeouts to get the win. Groton’s Aaron Hill (UConn) went 2-for-3 and scored for the Schooners (10-9) and Nick Mascelli (Wagner) scored.

    Zone 6 Senior Legion

    • Ledyard/Pawcatuck lost to Jewett City 5-4 on Thursday night. Cade Walters was 3-for-5 and Connor Woodworth was 3-for-4 with two RBI for Ledyard/Pawcatuck.
