    Local roundup: NFA volleyball comes from behind, outlasts East Lyme 3-2

    Norwich — Kayley Ericson had 26 assists and 15 digs as Norwich Free Academy outlasted East Lyme on Wednesday 15-25, 25-21, 25-20, 22-25, 15-5 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I girls’ volleyball match.

    Mackenzie Burke had 15 digs and 11 kills for NFA (4-0, 2-0) and Megan Goldstein had 12 kills and six aces. Danielle Tirrochi added 17 digs.

    Madison Bell had 25 digs, Annie Walker 17 assists and Sydney Iannantuono 17 kills for East Lyme (1-3, 0-1). Also, Gabi Murphy had 16 kills.

    In other matches:

    • Liz Martin had nine aces and seven kills to pace Ledyard to its 25-10, 25-9, 25-19 win over Windham. Sela Gill had nine assists and Isabelle Hammar added six kills for Ledyard (3-3).

    • Casey Rubino had eight digs, six kills and five aces as Griswold swept Wheeler 25-20, 25-16, 25-21 in an ECC Division III match. Meredith Brown had 17 digs for Griswold (3-0, 1-0). Gracie Anglin had three kills and two aces, Nikki Collins had three aces, two kills and a block and Sarah Spracklin had five kills and three aces for Wheeler (1-4, 0-2).

    • Coginchaug beat Old Lyme 25-15, 25-15, 25-9 in the Shoreline Conference. Marissa Smith had seven assists for Old Lyme (0-5) and Livy Schumacher had six digs.

    • Med-Ed Prep beat Grasso Tech 25-14, 25-21, 25-15 in a Constitution State Conference match. Chelsea Lorenzo had two aces, Chasity Beltran four digs and Haley Beal two kills and two blocks for Grasso (1-5).

    H.S. girls' soccer

    • Jenna Peduzzi had two goals and two assists as Old Lyme downed Coginchaug 5-0 in the Shoreline Conference. Mya Johnson had two goals and an assist for the Wildcats (7-1, 5-0) and Bianca Tinnerello scored. Also, Katherine Pettersen had seven saves and Caleigh O'Neil added an assist.

    • Camryn Werbinski had two goals and an assist as Williams School beat Forman 4-1. Audrey Matson and Morgan Pill had goals, Katia Bourganos and Grace Powell had assists for Williams.

    • Mia Brennan and Jacklyn Lavoie had first-half goals and Waterford held on to beat Killingly 2-0 in an ECC Division II game. Julia Gigliotti and Ciana Chiappone had assists and Jordan Kovacs made seven saves for Waterford (1-2-1, 1-1-1). 

    H.S. boys' soccer

    • Nick Chrillo's second goal was the game-winner as Williams edged Bancroft 2-1. Chrillo scored on a pass from Sean Conroy with 18 minutes left to break a 1-1 tie. Callum Tresnan added an assist.

    Boys' cross country

    • Josh Cardinal (17:17) was the first of four straight Lyman Memorial runners to cross the finish line as it beat both Wheeler and Tourtellotte 16-43 in an ECC Division III meet. Anton Smith placed fifth (18:53) for Wheeler (2-2, 2-2).

    Men's soccer

    • Alex Zapata scored a pair of second-half goals as Albertus Magnus rallied for a 2-1 win over Mitchell College. Former NFA standout Andris Vital gave Mitchell (0-4-1) a 1-0 halftime lead with an unassisted goal. Anthony Drake and Preston's Seth Strader, also a former NFA standout, combined for six saves for Mitchell.

    • UConn beat Rhode Island 2-1. Abdou Mbacke Thiam and Jake Nerwinski scored for UConn (5-3), Alex Sanchez assisted on Thiam's goal and Scott Levene made six saves.

    College field hockey

    • Bregje Smits scored a backhand goal in the second round of the shootout as Manhattanville College edged Conn College 1-0. The Camels are 0-4.

    H.S. boys' cross country

    • Parish Hill took three of the top four spots and beat Norwich Tech 25-30 in a CSC meet. Cory Harrington of Parish Hill won in 19:55, followed by Cody Kersteter of Norwich Tech (20:49). Malachi Jarmon of Norwich Tech (2-1, 1-1) was fifth (21:40) and teammate Evan Wagner was sixth (21:44).

    H.S. girls' cross country

    • Parish Hill took the first three spots and beat Norwich Tech 15-50 in a CSC meet. Sabrina Chesters of Parish Hill won with a time of 23:13. Ashley Roch was fourth (28:59) and Kalli Lavoie was fifth (32:17) for Norwich Tech (0-2, 0-1).
